We are proud of our village in Shadwell and invite you to explore these pages. Better still, come and visit us sometime to see our achievements created over the last few years.
The purpose of Shadwell in Bloom is to improve the social and physical environment of the area in which we live and to create a more picturesque Village.
Much of the work is done by loyal and hard working volunteers who contribute to the planning of future development work, and some are involved in bed design.
SIB much regretted the loss of the Shadwell Flower Show in August and will fully support efforts for its future reinstatement.
SIB is much involved in works not involving flower beds at all. Here for example, Shadwell Primary School has benefited from our re-fencing of their roadside boundary, fencing off of the pre-school bungalow area and in 2021 the constuction of nearby flower beds to add to those of the main school area. The SIB constructed school allotment areas are soon to be refurbished with newly designed contact beds. The Shadwell allotments were created by our volunteers and the maintenance of the nearby Recreation Hut areas including mains water supply are within our work schedule. There are similar histories for our work at Holywell Park, Dan Quarry, Shadwell Library and the Village Hall.
The Garden of Remembrance at the Churchyard is now maintained by St Paul's Church. For details of the establishment of the garden via the efforts of Celia Wroe and Richard Wells see the Churchyard page.

Shadwell in Bloom February 2024
As noted previously, little help has been needed with beds, grassed areas and containers over previous weeks and particularly so with the remaining current very cold weather.
The Village Hall and Gateland Lane beds received attention today, with a view to some changes being made to their planting schemes. More later!
We are also waiting for better weather for bench cleaning but we have replaced timber at the Round Bed in Main Street with the debris going to the Seacroft Reclamation site. The ginnel off Strickland Avenue has however been cleared but new debris and damage has now appeared at the Tennis Club entrance and remains at the Manor Court verge to mention two instances.
The two dedicated seats in Colliers Lane are onto flagged areas and look excellent, the third (and earliest seat) seat will be rearranged similarly to these whithin the next month. The area has become popular with moles and the lengthman was tacking this today (13 February).
SIB has been involved in various other village jobs including the clarification of damage to the fencing and gates at the ring road end of the Red Lion path numbered 102. SPC is dealing with necessary repair within LCC guidelines.
Two new Stihl batteries have been purchased recently but we still remain to discover whether two faulty batteries will be replaced via Ripon Farm Services. The management at RFS has promised to report within a week!
Again we gratefully thank the Library and Methodist Church for their efforts to provide a regular opportunity for good food after each Tuesday morning and making a relevant opportunity for SIB topics to be regularly discussed. Today, (13 February), there were 10 of us for lunch at the church. All, including other villagers are welcome! Please also read the SIB Report by Debbie Potter in each Shadwell News for how to join us.

Little help has been needed with beds, grassed areas and containers over previous weeks and particularly so with the remaining current very cold weather.
We are also waiting for better weather for bench cleaning and replacing timber at the Round Bed in Main Street etc. The ginnel off Strickland Avenue has however now been cleared.
Two of the dedicated seats in Colliers Lane are now fixed onto flagged areas and look excellent. The third (and earliest seat) seat will be rearranged similarly to these when the weather improves sufficiently. The area has become popular with moles.
SIB has been asked to be involved in various other village jobs including the refurbishment of the fencing and gates at the ring road end of the Red Lion path numbered 102. Steve Bumby is contacting LCC to determine the status (statutory or permissive) of the path so that others can be asked for help or assistance.

Again we gratefully thank the Library and Methodist Church for their efforts to provide a regular opportunity for good food after each Tuesday morning and making a relevant opportunity for SIB topics to be regularly discussed. Today, (12 January), there were 12 of us for lunch. About ten SIB Tuesday group members attend regularly but everyone including other villagers are welcome!
