Achievements

The Garden of Remembrance at St Paul's Church, which two of our volunteers have transformed. The Garden received a special award from Yorkshire in Bloom.

Shadwell in Bloom was formed in October 2002 by three parish councillors, and achieved seventh place out of thirteen in their first year in Yorkshire in Bloom's Large Village category, despite only having five months to prepare. It has since created two dozen sponsored flower beds along the length of the Village, and each summer up to ninety hanging baskets are installed and maintained along Main Street sponsored by local residents, businesses and the Parish Council. There are hayracks on the Library, and planters in various locations including the shops and bus terminus. We have still found time for 'infrastructure projects' including fencing at the School and Colliers Lane, verge levelling towards Slaid Hill, tree planting throughout the village including Holywell Park and mowing all grass when necessary including on occasions the churchyard itself!

The planting scheme is changed twice a year.

Until 2015 Shadwell in Bloom has maintained consistently high levels of achievement in the Large Village Category. In 2016 we entered the It's Your Neighbourhood Scheme.
